A: After leveling the instrument (There is a lock on the scope for level/straight lines of sight) you can do straight lines and 90 degree angles on a level plane.

So far this transit has been more than I expected for the price. Great quality, precise and accurate. Optics are crystal clear, focus right in on your target with no issues at all. At this point I've only used it to shoot grade elevations but very satisfied with my purchase. I would recommend this instrument to any professional.
