Review: A little king - The Intel Core i3-12100F remains the best value-for-money choice in 2026, particularly given the broader trend of CPU price hikes. For gaming, there’s simply nothing comparable at this cost—this small processor outperforms the AMD Ryzen 5 3600/4500/5500 and nearly matches the Ryzen 5 5600 in raw FPS while offering modern technological compatibility at a fraction of the price. What stands out is its cost-efficient modern tech support: it provides the cheapest PCIe Gen4/Gen5 compatibility needed for certain GPUs, ReBar activation (thanks to the long-term LGA1700 support), multiple motherboard options, and flexibility with DDR4 or DDR5 RAM. This makes it an exceptional choice for budget builds without sacrificing key technologies. In pure gaming performance, the i3-12100F is unmatched for its price due to its superior IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) from Alder Lake’s P-cores. MangoHud data confirms that during gameplay, power consumption stays exceptionally low, averaging between 15–26W in my testing. This not only improves energy efficiency but also keeps temperatures stable, even in compact builds. Another key advantage is its support for local LLM acceleration optimizations, something older or less efficient CPUs lack. The main limitation is multi-core performance, which isn’t terrible but will lag behind pricier CPUs in multi-threaded workloads. That said, its single-core (IPC) performance is head-and-shoulders above competitors in this price range, making it ideal for gaming and everyday tasks that rely on single-threaded processing. Personally, I use it daily with Linux Debian 13 and kernel backports—no issues at all, and it handles everything I need: compiling small programs, basic renders, and multitasking like browsing, Discord, and managing documents or PDFs. For gaming—especially Total War—it’s a noticeable leap over my old Zen 2 CPU. The idle c-states and overall power consumption are also remarkably low. I've attached some screenshots and images.
Review: Incredible price-performance - Picked this up used for 71 dollars and honestly did not expect much since it was only meant to be a temporary placeholder until I move to a 13900K. For a 4 core 8 thread CPU this thing seriously impressed me. It exceeded my expectations in almost every way. Multitasking is smooth and responsive which is something Intel has always done well. Even without E cores the extra threads help keep things moving during gaming and recording. As a content creator I rely a lot on strong single core and multicore performance and this CPU handled my workflow without stutters or slowdowns. For a budget chip that can handle games and light to mid workloads this CPU is an absolute killer.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it come with cooler?**
A: Yes it comes with a cooler, with pre-applied thermal paste

**Q: Is it unlocked?**
A: Hello. Thanks for your question. The Intel® Core™ i3-12100F processor is not part of the unlocked models. The ones with the letter K are the ones with the unlocking capacity, the letter F means that the processor does not come with an integrated graphics card. Here are the specifications for this product. [ https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/132223/intel-core-i312100f-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-30-ghz.html ]. Thank you for choosing Intel

**Q: Is this a chipset b660? I have the same motherboard that’s offered in the bundle but my box says chipset b660. I’m a first time pc builder.**
A: A processor has no one chipset. Chipsets are tied to a socket layout and are chosen by the motherboard manufacturer for specific features any one chipset may offer. Typically, a socket will support 3-5 chipsets. The B660 Chipset is made for LGA1700 Processors, of which the i3-12100F is one. So TL;DR: Yes, the motherboard in the bundle works with this processor. The chipset is made for the socket that the processor has.
