## Description

Product description Lepai LP-2020TI Digital Hi-Fi Audio Mini Class D Stereo Amplifier with Power Supply Fitted with a Texas Instruments Incorporated TPA3118 Class D amplifier chip, this mini amp produces efficient audio, with extremely low distortion, and it runs cool while doing it. A 12 VDC, 3A power supply is included with this amp, which is ample power to drive almost any speaker. But one amazing feature of the LP-2020TI is its ability to run on a wide range of voltages; 4.5-24 VDC. That means you can run this amp in a portable application using only 3 AA batteries or you can upgrade your power supply to maximize its full potential. All the features you need Simple and straightforward, this amp is easy to use. To get started, just plug in your power supply, connect speaker wire between your speakers and the spring loaded terminals on the back panel, connect a source device using either the 3.5 mm AUX input or stereo RCA jacks, turn it on and rock out. Customize your sound using the bass and treble controls or push the "Direct" button to bypass this circuit for a more pure listening experience. The oversized front knob controls the volume smoothly and is encircled by an array of blue light. Mounting tabs on the sides of this amp make it easy to securely mount this amp into turnkey DIY projects. Enjoy great sounding, easy-to-operate audio and more features than you would expect in an amp in this price range with the Lepai LP2020TI. Specifications Power output: 2 x 20 watts RMS Speaker impedance: 4-8 ohms SNR: >102 dB • Input impedance: 47k ohms Frequency response: 20 Hz - 22 kHz Input sensitivity: 200 mV Minimum THD: 20 watts per channel), we recommend a power supply 15 to 19.5 VDC, 3A (minimum) that is capable of producing up to 60 watts of total output. Make sure both speaker output channels are hooked up to a speaker when in operation. Developing this amplifier, the Lepai engineers knew they had to design an amp that combined efficiency, sound quality, and value — and they did it. Focusing their design around the TPA3118 amp chip, they created the LP-2020TI. This amplifier from Lepai overcomes the competition in both flexibility and performance. With standard features like short circuit and thermal protection, this amp requires no special knowledge to operate. In fact, it will run on 4.5V - 24V DC expanding the possibilities of project integration. Whether you want to use the Lepai LP-2020TI in a low-voltage portable audio project or use it to drive a set of tower speakers, this little amp is up to the challenge.

Review: Small Miracle - Before picking up a couple of these little amps, I read up on the amp-classification issue and Lepy vs Lepai branding. This seller is right on top of the chatter, marketing the TI circuitry and such. It's been years since I paid close enough attention to audiophile issues, but I felt comfortable enough with the new product to order a couple. Right now I'm listening to one driving Polk Audio bookshelf speakers which I have running as background "infill" for a whole-house system running Chromecast Audio. And I'll be darned if I notice a substantial difference in sound quality in comparison with far more expensive receivers & speakers on other zones. At this price point, I have to call it a miracle. After I've given these neat little devices more of a workout, I'll come back and bump them up to five stars. If the miracle holds out. (Edit: Two months later, I now own three of these and have given two more as gifts. I also own Accuphase and McIntosh gear and though it's apostasy to say so, this one gives more bang for your buck. So: 5 Stars.) Update: A week later, so far so good. Have two of them hooked up and they never even get warm and I have cranked them a bit. Sound is still reasonably clean which is amazing at the price point. There can be a touch of shrillness in the upper midrange but since I'm usually listening to Pandora the source material can be the issue. One note: when you switch them off, there's an unpleasant transient pop delivered to your speakers--not loud enough to blow anything, but annoying nonetheless. Not enough to cut a star from the rating anyway. PS: Please note that I have made reference multiple times to this item's price. It's because that's the context within which I can refer to these amps as 'small miracles'. They're certainly not going to outperform a $1500 amp, but they'll definitely give your average $100-150 amp a run for their money. BTW, on both of my units, the bass and treble controls (as well as the balance control for that matter) work fine. HTH!
Review: Great little amplifier. - I am no audio expert but I am perfectly happy with this amplifier. I am using it at less than half volume which is perfectly adequate. I don't have great quality speakers but the sound I am getting is as pleasant, clear and as pure as I was looking for and I am more than satisfied with the quality I am getting. Really, for this low, low price most ordinary non audiophile folks like me couldn't go wrong. The blue glow around the volume control is a little bright but I hardly ever notice it when I am looking at my two monitors. The sudden "boing/popping" sound when the unit is turned off is a little unsettling at first but why should one fuss about that, this is a very minor point to be concerned about in such a delightfully efficient product that does everything it is expected to do. Only true audiophiles should keep looking around and checking the minutest details when looking for an amplifier, the rest of us should just sit back and enjoy this product for what it is, perfectly capable and heck.....very cheaply priced.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this device intended for cars? I'm confused by the cabinet configuration...**
A: As a life-long electronics technician and audio amp audiophile from back in the day, I can tell you that since the device is rated at 12 volts, it is indeed compatible for automobile applications. While not necessarily designed or meant for car audio, it will work. If you apply 12V to it as a power source, it will function properly.

However, there are a few things to consider:

1. The power output (as you can prove to yourself by examining the pictures and actual specs of the device) is about 30 watts of total output power. (15 watts per channel times two channels - left and right.) This is evidenced by the power specs. The amplifiers require 12V at 3A (which equals 12V*3A= 36W). These are class D amplifiers which simply means that they are very efficient in their power consumption. These class D amplifiers are typically 85% efficient, which means that they will give you 85% of the power out that they consume.

2. Since the power supply (adapter) that powers these amps can provide 12*3=36 Watts of power, your audio output power is then 85% of 36 Watts = 30.6 Watts of output power to your speakers. Again, this IS coming from a 12V supply.

3. As to the reviewers that claim that these amplifiers run hot, I again will refer to the math. Due to the nature of how class D amps work, they don't get very hot. Consider that these class D amps are usually 85% efficient. Since the total supply of input power is 12V * 3A = 36W of power, then that means that the amplifier is only consuming 36W * 15% = about 5 Watts of power at full loudness. Five watts of power does not create very much heat at all. (About the same amount of heat that a little night light produces.)

4. While you can certainly install these lower power class D amps in you car once you route 12V to them, and they will perform well without overheating, remember that you're going to have to mount them somewhere such that they are in arms reach so that the power switch and tone controls are accessible. Also the inputs to these amplifiers are RCA jacks which are very susceptible to the electrical interference that are typical in automobiles.

Bottom line: For the price, I love the sound and power output from these amps (I have two of them from Amazon that I use for computer audio and they get nice and loud and have good bass and treble). However, keep in mind that the amps are typically sold either without strong power adapters, or are sold with no adapters at all.

Remember the power calculations that input Voltage times Current times the amplifier efficiency = the power output to the speakers. I wouldn't put them in my car (since there are many better installation options available), but for computer or TV speakers/gaming, these amps get good and loud and are impressive, IMO.

**Q: Using this am to power 2 external speakers. ok to keep the power on even when the tv is not?**
A: Yes, it would be fine to leave it on. The power draw would be almost negligible. I have older versions of this amp (with the Tripath chip vs TI), and have had one going 24/7 for the past couple years in my kitchen.

**Q: Is this 2 x 10watts or 2x 20?**
A: Power supply specification is 12 V , 3A. 12V x 3A = 36 Watts. So you are not going to get 20 watts per channel (40 total) even if the amp was 100% efficient, which it isn't.

**Q: Will this amp work with the polk audio psw505?**
A: Yes it will work with the psw505. I have mine running through a Sony SAS9 10" powered sub to my Sony 6 1/2" bookshelf speakers and it sounds awesome. You will need to connect the amp speaker wires to your polk sub 'speaker in' inputs and then wire the 'speaker out' to the speakers you are using.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little amplifier.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ An OK amplifier if on a strict budget.
*by T***O on January 31, 2021*

It is an OK amplifier, not ultra high quality, but what do you expect for $30. Actually, it is a pretty good deal for a mid-fi system. If you are on a really tight budget, then this . amplifier and a pair of monoprice, and/or Dayton audio $60. Speakers is a fair deal. It says that it will take a 4ohm load, but when I paralleled 2, 8 ohm speakers on heavy bass music, it shut down to protect itself. (They are safe for anything down to about 6 ohms I guess.). If you need two pairs I guess you will have to wire them in series, (which I hate to do.). Overall, if you want a cheep system that has reasonable quality then this amplifier will do well in a pinch. UPDATE- As I used this amplifier for a few months, I discovered that, for it’s price point it is quite good. I am using it to push a pair of Monoprice 6.5 speakers. I use them for deck top use and they are adequate for casual use. It is definitely not an audiophile quality, but it gets the job done. All in all, an excellent choice for a budget system. P. S. When I said it could not push a 4 ohm load, I found out that the two pairs of speaker were both 6 ohms nominal, ( which means that they may dip down to 4 ohms, or even less, in spots, so the amplifier is indeed,, 4 ohms stable. ) so, for the money, it is a pretty good deal, for a modest sound system.
