The edge around the screen is stiff all around which is what I wanted and raised enough to offer protection. The overall material is soft and feels great when handled but no the rubber soft stuff I had my prev. experience with where it fell apart at the corners. I see that Speck has revised its products. I stopped using them several years ago because of issues I had with some of their cases. These new cases seem better made and also they brought what used to be their insane pricing, down to something that more in line with reality. They also claim a "lifetime warranty" but from experience, that only comes with a replacement of the same case along with whatever problems the previous case had and they would not replace it further. This case appears better in terms of construction but only time will tell if it's going to fall apart as my other Speck cases did, in less of one year of use.
