Review: Simple, common sense information for better health - This books is based on a common-sense premise that a disease is a result of inadequate nutrition and toxicity. The author appropriately suggests that if you get rid of toxins and provide your body with the nutrients it needs to keep on rebuilding healthy cells, you will never get sick. However, since most of us live in a toxic environment, it is almost unrealistic for an average person to meet the standards of health the author has set in order to "never be sick again" - but the ideas from this book may help you to improve your health. If you want to enjoy great health and long life, it only makes sense that you should look into the lives of people who have been living long and healthy lives - and especially because you will find avalanches of books on nutrition with contradictory information. Wisely, the author bases his health model upon the lifestyles of people who enjoyed not only longevity, but were also free of any degenerative diseases, at least while they lived cut off from the civilized world - like Hunzas from Pakistan and Vilcabambas from Peru. Both lived in mountain regions, ate food that was as close to its natural state as possible (free of pesticides, and genetically engineered ingredients), engaged in some form of vigorous physical exercise, through hard physical work, walking, running or traditional folk dancing, lived peaceful lives, and enjoyed community support. Again, since most of us do not live in health-inducing environments, the idea is to do as much as we can to improve our chances of better health. Most of this book is not geared toward any specific nutritional advice, but rather on how to minimize elements that weaken the immune system and make the body susceptible to diseases. Through six chapters, the author shares six pathways that contribute to our health: - Nutrition - learn to select and prepare the types of foods that will enable your cells to function at their best - Toxins - learn where toxins are found and how to avoid them - Psychological - body and mind are part of the same system; your thoughts and emotions have direct influence upon your health - Physical - do you have enough exercise, rest, sunlight and fresh air - Genetic - learn how to optimize your genetic potential and avoid genetic damage - Modern Medicine kills and injures millions of people every year. Learn how to make educated decisions about the treatments you may or may not need. Personally I like to read books by people who write them based on their own experience and not just by rehashing information they read elsewhere, so I appreciate that the author of this book was on a brink of death and has recovered his health by using the principles he shares in this book. He did also share interesting excerpts from different studies to support the points he was attempting to make, and although somewhat dated, they are still relevant today.
Review: Very informative book - Very informative book. Sucked me in and helped me to make the right choices.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very informative book

Very informative book. Sucked me in and helped me to make the right choices.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent information & a very easy read!
*by D***R on July 24, 2011*

I had noticed a gradual decline in both my health and my family's health over these past few years since finishing graduate school. I just attributed my current health situation (always tired and general malaise) to stress and lack of exercise, which were certainly contributing factors. My wife and I are 31 and 30, respectively and have generally been in good health, but we ate a fair amount of processed foods and never bought organic produce. This book provides an excellent understanding of the poor nutritional value of processed foods, how to select effective vitamins (and why), and also helps to explain the reason why non-organic produce is flavorless and watery. The author goes on to postulate a causal link between poor nutrition from our everyday food choices to appetite and obesity. I have a master's degree in biomedicine and can easily distinguish fact from fiction as it pertains to human health and disease. This author is well read and I highly recommend this book. A quick example of how this information has improved our family's health... Our children generally recover from stomach and respiratory virus infections in a day or two, but it often takes me more than a week to feel "normal" again. After adopting the changes outlined in this book for about a week, I recovered from a nasty stomach virus in the same 2-day time-frame as my kids. My wife stayed altogether healthy and didn't even catch the bug! I've also noticed that my body doesn't feel sleepy or bloated after meals. Digestion seems to happen much more smoothly and my appetite has been significantly reduced - which the author attributes to eating more nutritious foods. It's amazing to me how different I feel now as compared to before. I guess I grew accustomed to feeling slightly crappy all the time and accepted it as normal. On the flip-side, I had a ham & cheese croissant a few days ago and regretted it for about 4 hours with heart-burn, indigestion and stomach bloating/belching. I suppose the negative effects of processed foods is more obvious now that my body has been away from them for more than a month. I would also recommend that everyone look at "Seeds of Deception" by Jeffrey M. Smith to become more informed about GMOs and the misinformation being handed down to consumers by the FDA.
