Is there salt or sodium like in whole house water filter systems?** A: Not sure, we recently replaced this unit due to the short life span of the filters. Needed replaced every 3-4 weeks **Q: Does this filter remove anything else besides chlorine?** A: It is a charcoal type filter so it is going to pick up plenty of contaminants but it wouldn't water safe to drink. We have public water which is treated with chlorine just barely below the upper safety limits to the point where if you pour yourself a glass of water from the tap you can smell the chlorine. With this filter we are able to take a shower without feeling like we just went swimming in a pool. My wife has a sensitivity to chlorine and this filter does its job well to that end. If you need to be certain that more formidable contaminants need to be removed then you need to look into a more robust filter. The company does provide more specific specs on this filter but I can only answer as to how we use it. **Q: How often do these filters need to changed?** A: Our shower is used about 2-3 times daily. Our area has extremely hard water so our filters only last about 3-4 months. I change them when my skin starts to dry out (severe eczema,) or it smells heavily of chlorine. **Q: Is this plastic? have bpa, pvc, pthalate, lead?** A: Hello, The shower cartridge is made of ABS plastic. We live in SWFL and the water is VERY hard and harsh, high chlorine content. Installation is easy. There are no harsh chemical smells, and I haven't had an issue with durability. They have lasted 6 months each time and I'm on my third set. My teenager will start to break out, and my hair will start to get brittle, first signs we need to change the filters.
