We first tried staining one after preparing it in all the right ways which was fairly time consuming. Pine is a soft wood so it can stain up blotchy. After the correct preparation, it looked great but rustic but not the look I was going for so we decided to paint them all instead. They look fabulous. I'm not sure if all door openings are like ours which are 80" tall but just under the choice of width measurements. So if you have that situation and plan on DIY, you better know what you are doing with the saw. I searched the web for ones with the exact measurements needed but never found solid core real wood doors with those dimesions. One of our doors is only 20"- wide and I got 24" for that one.
