**Q: care to explain how this replaces my phone i already have in my pocket with a free network scanner app instal?  really interested to know.  Thank you!**
A: The SIM-IPE is not a port scanner. Those devices flood networks with traffic.

**Q: Can you connect one LAN cable to this and one to a switch and see the IP?**
A: It actively listens to network traffic to discover devices by looking for EtherNet/IP, Profinet, ARP, and other discoverable packets.  If a device sits silently on the network, it will not be discovered.

Also, just in case I'm misunderstanding your question, under the IPEs network setup, instead of setting the IP address, you can enable DHCP on it and see what IP address a DHCP enable ethernet switch would assign.

**Q: Will it read HMIs?**
A: It reads many HMI IP addresses, I'd say more times than not it will.  It all depends on the device.
