## Description

Robinair's No 15600 CoolTech 2-stage rotary vane design vacuum pump features a 6 CFM free air displacement along with the power and capacity needed for a wide range of service applications. This high-performance unit includes a heavy duty, 1/2 HP, 115V/60Hz thermally protected motor that delivers high torque for easy startup and efficient operation. Factory rated to 15 microns, this unit delivers a fast, thorough evacuation. Offset rotary vanes build powerful compression within the pumping chamber - reducing pressure and vaporizing moisture. Gas Ballast design mixes moisture laden air passing through pump with relatively dry air so compression doesn't cause condensation. Iso-Valve isolates pump from system with just a quarter turn. Durable molded polycarbonate base improves pump balance and minimizes vibration while in operation. Also includes: 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" male flare inlet fittings, easy to read sight glass, easy access oil fill port, and angled oil drain valve for faster, more complete draining of the reservoir. Thoughtful design and robust construction ensure this UL approved unit will deliver the high-performance professionals demand. Robinair CoolTech vacuum pumps are designed for use on A/C-R systems using CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs in conjunction with mineral oil, ester oil, alkylbenzene oil, and PAG oil as lubricants. Not for use with ammonia or lithium bromide systems; not for use with flammable refrigerants. Oil included. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can I use this pump on a freeze dryer ?**
A: Before buying this pump I would check with the Robinair Application Engineering Department directly on this question. This pump is Made in the USA and has been for at least forty years so they will know. I would ask to speak with a Pump Mechanical Engineer there... not a sales or "Support" person who will likely NOT know much about this application. You will want to be prepared to discuss the exact refrigerant you will be using and details about exactly how you would be using it in your system. I promise you if you intend to evacuate any flammable or explosive refrigerant they will say, NO! This vacuum pump will pull down an Air Conditioning system vacuum to 10 microns or less. It is an excellent pump, bar none! Having said that, a very important part of achieving this extremely low vacuum and long pump LIFE to change the oil each time you evacuate an A/C system. The oil viscosity helps form the seal inside the pump twin chambers. Please contact Robinair on this before buying this pump. I hope this will help you!

**Q: Picture it’s made in the usa, and the list china !! which one is correct?**
A: Hi,
I looked at the Robinair label located on the information plate of the motor. This unit is made in the USA in their factory... I believe in Warren, Michigan. Some of the parts, for example, electric motors, are made in China to Robinair Engineering specifications. The vacuum chamber on this 15600 was designed by Robinair US engineering many years ago and made in the USA to extremely close tolerances. I worked in the refrigeration industry for over thirty years for Thermoking and Carrier in transport refrigeration and auto/truck dealer A/C and have used this Blue handled Robinair 15600 vacuum pump for all of those years without failures. So when I retired, it was an absolute no-brainer to get this model of pump for my own vehicle use. You can be sure that this pump, while more expensive, in my opinion, it's well worth the money. It will pull-down to less than 15 microns (0.015) of a millimeter of mercury with my Thermal Engineering electronic analog vacuum meter) without fail and pull-down very quickly. This is incredible and very close to an absolute vacuum. I always check the pump pull-down FIRST to make sure it gets there, before hooking it up to the system. One thing I can say is this, if you want your pump to last many, many years, you MUST change the pump oil after every system evacuation. I drain the oil out after the evac and then store the pump refilling it with oil just before I do my next evac. I use the Robinair Premium High Vacuum Pump Oil P/N 13203. This is available from your local HVAC Refrigeration wholesaler for about $6/quart. I have no experience with other brands of oil that are cheaper because we always used this outstanding oil in the 15600's. Please note, the oil actually seals the vane chamber and allows such a deep pull- down. As a final note, Robinair does make some other less expensive RED HANDLED vacuum pumps that are completely made in China. Many people have complained about them. If you purchase this Blue handled one you will be very happy with it and never look back at the price you paid. Just take good care of it by changing the oil and follow the written instructions to the letter. Hope this helps you! ASE Master Automobile/ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician/ BSEE

**Q: Can I use this with a 5 gallon pressure chamber for resin work?**
A: YES. Not sure what the above are basing their answers on. I’m using it for exactly that (Cactus Juice stabilizing) after upgrading from the HF 3cfm. Be sure to use the gas ballast feature, or you’ll get water condensation in your oil REAL quick, rust out the pump etc. Also change oil periodically, especially if you have water in there or notice loss of vacuum. But yes, it will totally pull near total vacuum on on a casting chamber.

**Q: Is there a 3/8" inlet?**
A: yes there is a tee with 3/8'' and 3/8" and 1/4" connections, the connections you don't use have a cap, included. very nice piece of equipment for the pro

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Been Using The Robinair 15600 Deep Vacuum Pump 6 CFM for 30+ Years.
*by M***S on May 3, 2021*

I have always respected Robinair for their A/C equipment and have this 15600 pump along with their Manifold Guage Set, RG6 Reclaiming Machine, 134a Refrigerant Identifier, TIF Weighing Scale, and many fittings. I strongly recommend the 15600 Deep Vacuum Pump for automobile/Truck A/C systems. If taken care of properly this pump will last many, many years. It's very important to use the Robinair Premium High Vacuum Pump Oil which will ensure that the seal can be made to consistently result in vacuum of 15 microns. Please Note: All oil is hydroscopic, the oil will hold moisture from the evacuation of the system. Learn to use the Gas Ballast function to minimize the contamination of the pump oil by water. This oil/water combo will make Hydrofluoric acid which will etch the two-stage elliptical chamber where the vacuum is created. Failure to change out the oil after EACH USE and re-fill with fresh oil will result in permanent damage to the pump where you will never again achieve this low pull to 15 microns. Follow the pump instructions carefully when you put oil into it. That means specifically DO NOT fill to the center sight glass line initially! Fill the reservoir to the BOTTOM of the sight glass only. Run the pump for a few minutes and the oil level will rise closer to the center line as it heats up and expands. Then add small amount of oil to the center line while the pump is running. DO NOT OVER or UNDERFILL! The pump is now ready to use but we will check the pump vacuum FIRST. If the pump cannot hold a vacuum then you have to get that remedied first! If the vacuum pump cannot pull a 15 micron vacuum within 5 minutes then there is a problem. The three nipple manifold has plastic caps with seals inside them. These seals will leak at a high vacuum and must be treated with a small amount of Nylog Blue following the instructions for a thin coating each side of the rubber cap gaskets. I use a Thermal Engineering Electronic Thermister Vacuum Guage with its sensor mounted on 1/4 manifold fitting: Appion P/N VFL45L -- Double Sided 1/4" Flare 45 degree Connector. The vacuum guage sensor must be ABOVE the pump at all times to prevent oil contamination and permanent failure from spit back when the pump is shut down. Close the Iso-Valve that isolates the pump from your maniold guage set. Start the pump and let it pull down to 15 microns as indicated by your thermister vacuum guage. Shut off the pump and observe that the vacuum is holding after several minutes. Please Note: It is virtually impossible to know the vacuum unless you have a electronic micron guage! The manifold guage set will not do it! This is a very high quality vacuum pump. Reading the instructions and following them will ensure that it will operate to its design spec for many years to come. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This pump is awesome
*by T***N on December 12, 2024*

Needed a vacuum pump for stabilizing knife/tool handle blanks out of porous lumber. It does its job, leaving it on overnight....no problem. This thing is quiet and keeps a steady vacuum in my chamber until the lumber quits yielding air, at which time I let the vacuum off, and this allows the resin to rush in.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome vacuum pump!
*by P***R on March 23, 2008*

I have used this pump twice so far, and it works very well. Pulls the system down very quickly due to the large displacement, so it doesn't have to work hard to get the job done. I am using it for automotive ac and that required a different fitting than the one that came on it, also found that on Amazon. The pump comes with a bottle of oil, I did not know this and ordered a bottle of oil, still not a bad idea as you should change the oil often for best performance. This pump is still serving me well and running strong!
