You should end up with a hole going through the screens metal frame. Put the spring on the metal bar and put the spring and bar through the hole from the OUTSIDE into the inside. The thinner part of the bare should come out the inside hole The piece will not want to stay in because of the spring so you may need another person to push it in form the outside or a piece of duct tape to temporally hold it in place. You are now up to the point you need adjustable pliers to squeeze the inside part on. See my other comment “You need slip lock pliers to put the cap on after you put the rest in the screeen” for what I am talking about. Of course you could just get some repair geek you know to do it but that is your call . Haha **Q: Will these fit Hurd screens?** A: This is quite a coincidence. I have Hurd windows and screens. These fit fine in most of the screens, but in a few cases I had to drill out the hole, just up 1/64” or 1/32”. It’s a quick fix. Hurd replacement screens are expensive, if you can even find them **Q: How do you clamp the ends on?** A: They snap on **Q: What is the diameter of the larger side of the pin? (I know the plunger size is 5/32”, but what about the opposite end?)** A: I would say it's a tight fit, maybe 3/16" or 7/32" at the most. I don't have a micrometer to measure it.
