One application could be used to remotely activate the flashlight if you have the VZ230/VZ460 mounted to a gun.Pressing the momentary buttons on the remote switch turns the light on temporarily. Letting the momentary buttons go turns it off. Subsequent presses of the button scrolls the light through its five modes: High-Medium-Low-Strobe-SOS.The VZ230/VZ460's memory feature will remember the light's last mode as long as the light is on for at least 5 seconds, and off for at least 5 seconds. My only complaint is that there is no way to effectively mount it to the stock or fore end of a rifle/shotgun. I definitely would not use it in a situation where you need the advantage over a potential aggressor. It appears to be very durable. I first attached the switch to the forward vertical grip of my AR with zip ties. Although I chose the best placement to position the ties, it looked like it would chafe or crush the rubber sleeve covering the switch, so I immediately changed the arrangement to securing it to the grip with a strip of Velcro. This is what I'd recommend, it works perfectly to keep the switch properly aligned on the grip and does not pinch the rubber too tightly...
