A: Maximum diameter in that set is 7/16". Nothing in that set will fit a 1/2" shaft.

A: Not 5/8 “,probably more like 1/2 “

A: Not sure made with carbon steel they look like they have a coating on them to prevent rusting ...

A: M6 is 6mm ; 1/4 is 6.35mm, I consider it an appropriate tolerance to use it as described
