It is about 3 times as thick. It was easy to cut and I used a leather hole punch to make the holes for the bolts. It should last for years. My only complaint (other than the smell- but that is to be expected) is the roll had been flattened and the sheet never really relaxed (I left it in front of my pellet stove hanging from a line). Still works just fine, but I did have to be careful when cutting these out. Update. 2 years later and the lid is still holding up. The cut out pieces did relax after a year. I store them flat with a little cornstarch powder in a bag.
