Unless you have the old fashioned collar clamps with a threaded bolt to lock it down then use a pipe or pliers and twist it on with the intent to break through to the other side, the plates will move some but only the slightest. This bar is solid! It is smooth and sturdy. Now, my workouts do not involve quick movements or dropping weights (clean-jerks, snatches).
