Jiffy's website says the mesh is biodegradable and to leave it on, but I have experienced several plants not growing because of the mesh barrier. It really depends on the root structure of the seedlings, as to whether the roots are strong enough to break through. Realistically the mesh won't biodegrade before the plants are large enough to need space for their roots, so I am now removing it from all of my seedlings as a precaution. ### ⭐⭐ Counting machine needs calibration. *by E***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2018* Ordered 2 bags 100count each. Surprise, surprise. When i was loading the trays i noticed that i was short 4 peat pellets from 1st bag. Recounted the next bag and came up 5 short. Their loading machine must be uncalibrated or someone is shorting the bags. Pellets did expand like it was suppose to. But it would be nice to receive quantity ordered. Peat Pellets in a packet of 100. Do I need 100 of these things? How many seeds am I really going to plant? Can I just put the seeds in some dirt and not use Peat Pellets? I can't answer that for you. What I can tell you is that these work just great. First, you put the disc shaped pellet on the bottom of the tray. Then you pour some water in the tray. Don't pour too much, or the Peat Pellets will become boats that float around the tray. Wait about an hour and they'll be expanded and ready to take more water and some seeds. There is a hole at the top, so you can drop your seed in there, and after a few days (Depending on the seed, how much light, and if you live on planet Earth or not) the seed will turn into a plant that you can then take, entire Peat Pellet and all, to your garden or planter and set in the soil. That's about it. No real magic here, but they do work great to get the seeds started.
