It is sold separately. I'm still debating about buying it but I am happy with the stirrer. **Q: Will this stir something as thick as chili? The chili I make is pretty thick...a 9v battery doesn't seem like it would give enough power** A: We have cooked different chili recipes using StirMATE® with no difficulty. The 9v battery drives a high torque gear motor for up to 13 hours. We also offer a Li-ion rechargeable battery and charger that works even harder - it keeps going strong until it stops when it is discharged. If you like, please send us your recipe and we will prepare it and give you the best answer for your "pretty thick" chili.
