There are no directional arrows.** A: Normal filter function is for the dirt to land on the outside of the filter element, and clean fluid to exit from the middle of the element. So with the pictured filter, fuel should enter the tapered end and exit the 'square' end. Having siad that, look at my review (user MCSOPHIE). : I don't know what product other reviewers got, but the one pictured is absolutely worthless. Look closely at the hose fittings on each end in the adv. photo. There's no bead around the fitting, to retain the hose you'll attach on each end. In fact, the actual product has a slight taper, away from the filter body. So when you attach a fuel line, especially one with oil premix (2 stroke engine), the hose just slides right off. A hose clamp only accelerates the process. Fortunately, I was using Urethane fuel line and it slipped off almost instantly. Someone using regular rubber fuel line might install the filter and the line wouldn't pop off until the engine is operating, and they'd get a massive dose of fuel on a hot exhaust system. **Q: Will these work on a gravity fuel system or do they require pressure** A: I am using them on a gravity system with about one foot of head feeding a 25 horse engine. No problems. **Q: Can this be used with diesel fuel?** A: Short answer yes. Most diesel engines have some kind of filter system are you using this as a prefilter?
