Review: Barely managed USB 2.0 speeds - I was interested in the type-E female to type-C male adapter because I have a front USB-C port that's theoretically capable of 10Gbps, but the header on my motherboard is only 5Gbps. So I thought maybe with this adapter I could route the header cable to one of the rear 10Gbps 3.2 ports on my motherboard. I tested this with an ADATA external SSD and USB-C cable which I have previously verified at up to 980 MB/s read/write speeds (which is just under 10 Gbps). The USB-C header cable on my PC has previously been verified at up to 460 MB/s when connected to the 5 Gbps header on my motherboard. The screenshot speaks for itself. The adapter managed only 44 MB/s, less than 5% of the advertised speed, and about what you would expect from a USB 2.0 device. To make matters worse, the first time I tried connecting it, it couldn't read anything at all, until I rotated the position of the USB-C port. So this is one of those bottom-of-the-barrel USB-C connectors that only works in one position, and even then it doesn't achieve anywhere close to its advertised performance. The only reason I'm giving this two stars rather than one is that I also tested the type-C female to type-E male adapter, and that at least managed 5 Gbps (I don't have a 10 Gbps header to test it with). So if that's the adapter you need, it'll probably work for you. Just to be thorough, once I verified that other adapter was working, I tried plugging both adapters into each other and testing the data transfer that way, so I could eliminate my front USB-C port and header cable from the equation.
