I purchased this microphone (VidPro XM-55) for use in building a vlog setup at home. I am a novice with audio systems, so I struggled a bit with really bad noise with this unit, until I realized that it works best with an external preamp that also provides 48V phantom power via the XLR cable. This is probably a "no duh" type of comment for anyone that knows better, but if you didn't, now you do.For best results, do not install the AA battery into the mic; purchase a preamp that provides the necessary power for the unit. Once I figured this out, the microphone works very well! It picks up everything, so the closer to your face the better to isolate external sounds from being included. I am still working out the best balance between distance and gain (externally) to produce crisp vocals without too much room echo (to keep the mic out of camera frame). 10-18 inches seems to work best so far.
