In practice, for use with 120v AC circuits, the cost effective type will be an SJxxx 300v cable with 3 copper wires, for Line, Neutral and earth. For use with 240v AC circuits, the cost effective type will be an Sxxx 600v cable with 3 copper wires, for Line, Neutral and earth. This connector is rated for use up to 20A, but the wire gauge would be determined by the length of the cable and the expected load current. Just different brand?** A: I have been told that they are interchangeable with the only noticeable difference being the type of plastic being used for the body. I personally have never used any "off brand" versions so I'm uncertain as to the durability. I've never had a Neutrik PowerCon fail. I'm loving them.I was a bit worried that it might not be able to handle 12/3 SOOW, as that is a very thick cable... but it fit in there no problem, and I've now done 5 terminations with it, all clean and snug.On the other side of the spectrum, I have one that is 16/3 SJTW, super thin little generic no-frills PC Power cord stuff... that also fits in tight and secure. That's a huge range of cable sizes that can fit into the boot.I'm probably going to start using these things for more than just audio systems! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ LFMF! *by S***N on October 27, 2017* Don't be a noob (like me) and test-assemble before you've hooked up your wires. Trust me, you will say bad words as soon as you hear it ratchet.When done properly, this is an easy connector to use, super solid and stable. I wish I found these years ago. It makes my portable recording rig much cleaner looking.
