Depends on height. Don't but though they burn out or pop fast. Do not put to close and always aim the bulb in a downward position on animal never pointing up into face. when using follow directions and mimic the sun, always shining down. I purchased these about a year ago as extra bulbs once the one at the time would need to be changed.. I swapped them on August 23rd this year and this morning on November 3rd it was flickering once every 10 seconds... that is NOT your typical mercury bulb... mercury bulbs instantly break 70% of the time if they even flicker from a power surge. So now I have no idea if my lizard has been getting the correct lights she needs for the past 3 months.
