As the car and caravan batteries are 12v, you need to switch the multimeter to 20v to identify the 12v wires and their polarity. The ohmmeter is also useful for checking continuity of individual wires. Two types of probes are provided : clip on and pointed, to access the conductors but I’m not sure what the plastic fence means. **Q: I want to use this to check voltage in myself before & after grounding myself. so far I have been unsuccessful, does anyone know how to set up for it?** A: Difficult question !!! If you were a battery you would have been constructed with an anode (+ve terminal) and a cathode (-ve terminal) and there would be a potential difference between them. The flow is +ve to -ve in order to reach equilibrium.
