I have to bake my apple pie at 425 for 30 min before lowering the temp for another 40 minutes - and this crust shield is so helpful to preserve the crust without it coming out burned or uber dry! It was easy to use and did not adversely affect the way my pie edges baked overall. I added it about 10 minutes into baking, just to give the crust a good setting in the oven - then quickly looping this protector around the pie edge. It is a durable material, was easy to unfurl and wrap, and was adjustable. I had a couple inches left for using it on my 9" pie pan, so it would easily accomplish covering a larger pan. It cleaned well with hot water and a tad of soap. I keep it in a drawer, rolled up - easy to store.
