I really hate resetting clocks for daylight savings (why is that even still a thing?) and these set themselves. I have two notes though. The first is that they tend to reset themselves in the middle of the night. I work nights, so looking up to find my clock spinning around like it's possessed is a little strange, even after several years. The other thing they both do is in the middle of the night, at the top of the hour like 1, 2, or 3 am, the second hand will stop at 12 for a few minutes. It still tracks minutes perfectly, but from :00 to :04 or so, the second hand is frozen at 12. I have no idea why they do this, couldn't find anything about it anywhere on Google. But, it resumes and keeps perfect time, so it's just an oddity. I'm pretty sensitive to ticking noises, and I cannot hear this clock tick unless my head is right next to it and the room is quiet. 15 feet away on the wall, I don't hear it at night at all, ever. It's a good size I can see across a fairly large room in my home (open floorplan), but isn't enormous or anything. Very simple, classic looking, easy to read clock face too. I'm poor and $40 is a lot for a wall clock. But I don't have to get out a ladder and reset the damn thing twice a year and I find that cost was absolutely worth it to me. I have 2 of them in my house and they are both accurate. The glow is decent but if it's in an area with less light it obviously doesn't glow as well. The numbers are easy to read even at night. It is not a silent clock it does make a deep tick but it's not loud either. No ticking?** A: It is very quiet. I can't stand to hear a ticking clock at night, so I bought this one because it's not supposed to tick. And they were correct, it is silent. **Q: Would it auto set in South America?** A: In a word - NO. This and most other "atomic" clocks sold in the USA are specifically designed to be used in that country, They receive the coded 60 kHz signal from NIST's WWVB transmitter in Colorado, which propagates by ground wave and covers most of the US - but not always reliably. The clock only has offset selection for US time zones. There are 60 kHz time stations in the UK and Japan, but I am not sure that they use the same time code and they are in different time zones from the US. There are cellphone applications available that connect to NIST's web service and emulate the 60 kHz signal by sending harmonic rich audio at 20 kHz to the smartphone's speaker. The third harmonic of 60 kHz then inductively couples from the speaker coil to the clock's ferrite loopstick antenna. If you are in SA, depending on the app, you may have to be in a country that observes one of the time zones in the US. If there's one thing I love, it's a functional item that makes my life easier. I hate going around the house twice a year at Daylight Savings time to adjust clocks. This eliminates that! This one is easier than other atomic clocks I've had as well. I just inserted a AA battery, and a few minutes later the clock was synced to the exact time down to the second! What could be easier?
