Just follow the instructions on your device and the instructions that come with the product. When it arrived it was evident that it was completely disimilar to the original, furthermore it did not include the plastic ring lid which was supposed to hold the spool to the machine. Found one and ordered it. Even worse luck, the combo was absolutely wrong. Clearly they do.The unit itself is a nightmare, far too easy to unravel, and almost impossible to fix once you have. Always used to be a Black and Decker fan, but no more thanks to this crappy device. Since buying this strummer I have not bought another B&D tool, and never will again.
