There is a new two inch drain pipe a foot above the floor behind the shower and this would be an ideal drain for the shower if only there was a quiet, good quality pump designed for this ... so I ordered this pump and was delighted to see the noise-dampening features it incorporates throughout, the check valves on the inlet and outlet ports, the quality of the pump and accessories ... all in all an excellent product. And so quiet when operating - a barely noticeable low rumble. But remember to take the cover off and check that the pressure switch has not been dislodged in shipping. The pump I received was like this and only took a minute to replace back into it's proper position. Cover removal was quite easy but took some care. Also a 7mm nut-driver helped with proper tightening of the provided clamps. Such as an Eichler style home or midcentury modern.** A: Yes I put one in at a conceret slab home, for stackable washer dryer that was added to a closet. Ran drain up and over to toilet vent pipe to drain it. Works great **Q: why do i need a vent to pump utility sink to outside ?** A: The pump will pull extra air to help force the water out without pulling it through the intake line...so it doesn't suck the water out of the utility sink. Normally a regular drain will pull air in through the vent line so that the water flows properly and does not pull a vacuum. It is a functional and code requirement. If this is only for a utility sink...not in a bathroom or regular plumbing situation...then you can just install a one-way air valve that can be found in any home improvement store. This will just keep it from sucking stuff into the pump. Just note that this may not meet code and I believe the instructions say not to do this. I can't understand why, as long as it has a fresh air supply. I highly recommend this product! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by C***. on 12 January 2018* For me, I use this under a sink in my wet bar, I do not have floor drain lines, as, mine are located 3 feet off the floor. My Saniflo pumps the “waste Water” from the sink through 40’ of 3/4” PVC pipe. It works excellent. This is my third unit in the past 6 years. What I have learned from past experiences and why I’ve been through 3 of them, is, this pump is NOT a grinder pump, don’t expect it to chew up food, it’s not a garbage disposal. 2nd, since it does not just flow downward to a gravity drain like the rest of your home, it actually needs to PUMP the fluid, so don’t keep pouring sugary type drinks into it(like soda) or other, even beer and alcohol WITHOUT running water with it. If you do, the sugar base will foul the internal float and prevent it from turning on and the fluids will back up in your sink. YOU MUST RUN WATER WHEN POURING ANYTHING IN THE DRAIN OTHER THAN WATER ITSELF. Trust me, I’ve replaced 2 of these already. If you watch what goes into it, your good to go. I do now. I have no issues with cold water. I have no issues with hot water. I have no issues with the “Pumping” noise it makes. The Saniflo works great.
