The accu-clear takes care of the particle in the water and the pristine is a bacteria that works to eliminate the organic compounds. I wouldn't think you'd need both, with adequate water changes, rock/sand/filter cleaning. I only use accu-clear when I start a new tank or do a major clean/overhaul on an existing tank.
