Try this: Hold the feeder in both hands, with the compartment pointed outwards (the button lights side will face you). Put BOTH thumbs on the "grooved" section of the door. Pressing the feeder gently against your chest for leverage, push the door outwards. Doing it this way applies even pressure on the door, making it easier to open.
