Review: Essential Marvel Champions expansion - I was really impressed with this expansion. Marvel Champions, with just the base set, is desperately in need of more villains, and a lot of the other villain expansions have been pretty mediocre, but this one is just spot on, giving you 5 new villains to add to only 3 in the base set, and these villains are really well made. But more than that, even though the "campaign" framework is kind of tacked on to a game not designed with leveling-up in mind, I found that the structure of the campaign, taking my one hero and facing 5 ever-increasing challenges, is surprisingly pleasing. And even the least interesting of the 5 villains works perfectly well in the context of the campaign. It isn't perfect, in fact I made some house tweaks to it, but in general I think it is by far the best villain expansion to get after buying the base set. And it comes with two good heroes too! The box also included two new heroes in Hawkeye and Spider Woman. I haven't played Hawkeye yet but Spider Woman combines multiple aspects decks and is a lot of fun.
