    Fun!

I adore this couple, their fun sense of humor and their awesome renovations. They have inspired me to do a few renovations to my own home. The only thing is, I wish their clients wouldn't use the name of Diety as a common expletive when they see their new house. After all it is one if the 10 commandments not to do so. I know it's too late for this series because they aren't making any new episodes, but as they do future series I hope they would consider it.

Fixer Upper is a winner in every way

Hands down, this is my wife's FAVORITE show from HGTV. It's a winner in every way. We bought the whole season and have watched every episode at least twice! When we were in Austin recently we made a day trip to Waco just to see the town. Had a great lunch at Vitek's, which we never would have known about if not for this show.Comparing Season 2 to Season 1, it seems a lot of the home buyers have bigger budgets, and fewer houses look like the worst house in the neighborhood when Demo Day starts. That results in a broader range of transformations.I was initially surprised in Season 1 by the routine inclusion of all members of the Gaines clan. And at the same time, very pleased. After all, why do each of us do the work we do each day? For many, it's for their family. A visible (and adorable!) family is a rare delight. I'm glad the whole family is in the show for Season 2.A couple notable moments this season:Episode 7. This is a major renovation of a mid-century modern house. This was a major style challenge for Joanna, as she herself noted. We think the Magnolia team met the challenge beautifully.Episode 12. The couple chose House #2, which best met their needs. The renovation was stunning, too. But sadly, for me, they did not choose House #3, a magnificent wreck built in 1911. That 1911 house just spoke to me--spoke so loudly that I actually found the house when I was in Waco. That house recently sold at auction. I hope whoever bought it can resurrect, rebuild, redeem and renew a gem. They just don't make houses like that anymore. And that's why so many want to see how the next Fixer Upper will be transformed. Love this show.

Like other HGTV home improvement shows

*by K***N on Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2015*

Like other HGTV home improvement shows, there isn't much "how to," just an overview of the process. They do an amazing job of taking sad homes in happy neighborhoods and completely transforming them into the best home on the block. They are an engaging couple you can't help but like, and Jojo is extremely talented in home design. Nits to pick: 1) Demo always seems to take exactly one day. I guess that's possible if you have a team of 50 working on it, but in real life, it takes a bit longer. 2) After I watched the entire season, I noted that most all of the interior design treatments are very similar: White subway tile backsplashes, cool blue/green wall colors, white trim, etc. I really like that type of design, but you're not going to get much of a range of interior design treatments. On the plus side, if I were hiring them to do a home, I would have an excellent sense of how it would turn out. 3) There are never any arguments or crying on the part of the homeowners when surprises are laid upon them (complete electrical re-wiring needed, etc.)But you don't watch this show for the details. You watch it to see an engaging team transform a dated ugly home into a showplace. If you're considering buying a crappy home in the best neighborhood (or live in one and are trying to envision how to reno), or if you're a home improvement addict who just likes watching it on TV, this is one of the most watchable of the shows. I really wish more were available on Amazon for streaming.
