However, I had heard that the newest version, medical practice edition 2 was significantly better. I invested the $1500 hoping this to be true. It worked relatively the same for the first week and then an automatic software update made it dysfunctional. It would not populate free text boxes more than about 30 characters. The remainder of my dictation would be truncated. I tried numerous workarounds as well as speaking with Nuance and they said it could not be fixed because of the nonsupported EMR I was using. This includes EMDs and Meditech. I am hoping I can delete this edition of dragon and reload my version 10. In the meantime, I am dictating about 3 to 4 words at a time between pauses while I wait for it to populate the text box which is all it will allow me to do in this current version. Macros. Speech macros. One word or phrase can recall pages of information. I used dragon to recall ICD-10 codes, for example, I'll say, "hypertension 10" and get, Hypertension I10. Nuance also makes a program called Power PDF standard. Dragon is compatible. I use Dragon to fill the blanks of the dreaded FLMA form, that I hated. Now it's fun. Don't listen to Dragon detractors. For the price, it's cheap. You can install it on 4 different computers. You can actually remove it from one computer and move to another. Previous was working well for many years. Dragon Medical PE 2 is a little faster and seems to be somewhat more accurate than 8.1 - but not dramatically so. It works extremely well for charting within my EMR. My only complaint is the price. I certainly understand why the medical is more expensive that the standard version - I'm willing to pay more to have the specialized vocabulary pre-loaded, but why 16x more expensive?
