The body of the bottle had a strong chemical smell when I first opened it but it went away after an hour of the lid being off. I put it in the dishwasher to wash it before using it for the first time (as suggested) and I acidently wacked it on the side of the dishwasher. It did not chip, crack or break. What I like about it . . - It has a wide mouth so you can put ice cubes in it. - it has measurement markings on the side. - the lid is very comfortable to drink from - it has an hourglass shape so it is easy to hold for smaller hands like mine. - strong glass - dishwasher safe - it is not heavy like some glass water bottles. - it is attractive - you can buy replacement lids if you lose yours or want a different type. - the price!
