The transparent covers have a scratch-resistant matte finish on the outside, and a smooth surface on the inside. The smooth side can be used as another dry erase surface-use it to layer ideas on top of another sheet. The clear cover also allows you to flip over the notebook, create your artwork on the "last" page and use that side as your cover.
