I had forgotten that it was even chargeable it's been so long since I purchased it. I was surprised to see the charge port when I went to replace the batteries, so I checked when I installed it, August 2019. Works great! **Q: Can I use regular batteries when rechargeable ones get bad? What size fit?** A: It uses a single 18650 rechargeable battery. Wires are soldered to battery and then plugs into circuit board. If you can solder, any 18650 can work as replacement. Battery is glued to circuit board, but with care can be removed. **Q: Are the installation instructions available online?** A: Its actually quite simple. Put in the batteries, adjust the tone you want and the distance you want it to pick up on (we ended up taking it down and switching it higher after a week) with the two small switches inside the unit, screw on the back and swivel, pick a tree, screw it to the tree, walk by it 100 times to test it. (Make sure someone is in the house to let you know if it works from inside too), plug in the inside unit or put in batteries and voila! Its good to go. **Q: can you program a time you want the sensors on or off?** A: Not that I know of - this is the simplest unit they have. However, you can determine the volume level of the base unit (the part that "alarms") or even turn the alarm sound completely off. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Highly reccomend, best motion detectors I've used *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2019* I absolutely love my Hosmart motion detector system. They work perfectly and are worth more than they cost imo. I've tried several different brands of motion detectors and security cameras with built in motion detection and I can tell you that these are by far the best band for the buck. The batteries last forever, you literally never have to charge them. There are 4 different distance settings so you can tweak the range to fit exactly what you're trying to use them for. They are very responsive and have never failed any if the tests I put them through. If you're looking for a reliable and well built motion section system then you have found it. The only problem I've had with them, and it's really my fault, is that one of the detectors fell backward and it rained so water got into the detector through the lens, but it didnt stop working even then. I took it apart, displaced the water with alcohol, let it dry and its working like the day I bought it. Overall, I highly reccomend. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Easy setup and works well even in hilly, wooded terrain. *by H***D on Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2021* I purchased one sensor and one receiver in November. The setup was easy and I installed the sensor on a tree next to our driveway with a couple screws. The sensor is about 500 feet away and 50 feet downhill through the woods. Reception is no problem even with the receiver on the opposite side of the house. Remarkably, I have yet to recharge the sensor. Bear in mind it's gone through a cold Wisconsin winter on a single charge. 5 months and still on the initial charge! The receiver is a little battery hungry, it will go through 4 AA batteries in about 2weeks. I now have it plugged into a USB charger and it's working well without having to change batteries. I'm very pleased with this unit, in fact I've just ordered another receiver. Our driveway is long and the sensor does get triggered by passing deer. With another sensor placed a hundred yards or so down the driveway we will be able to tell if a car is approaching, rather than a random animal passing just the first sensor. Also it is AA battery powered, not Li-Ion powered as shown in the description.
