## Description

desertcart.com: Icstation DIY Light Sensor Sound Module, Type-C USB Recordable Sound Chip 8M Memory Speaker Talking Programmable Music Player Box for Christmas Greeting Card Anniversary : Electronics

Review: It is great! Even better when you know a few things... - It doesn't come with instructions, but most of what you need to know is right on the listing. Once switched on, it only works when the sensor sees light, and immediately quits when dark again. It does have 8mb of memory and acts like a flash drive when you plug it into the computer (using the included cable). After you delete the pre-installed sample song, you can put any amount of songs up to 8mb. COMPRESS YOUR FILES if you want to put on multiple songs! (You can do that by ripping them again to lower quality, or going online to sites that do it free with a quick upload, compression, then download.) The speaker is okay (better than the kind in musical greeting cards, but nothing fancy), and lower quality mp3 files will be sufficient. I put four songs on mine and it works great. I had to play around to figure out how to play the songs in a particular order-- You need to RENAME the entire file title to "1", "2", etc. if you want them to play in that order. Any other effort with using lead numbers, or multiple letters, or anything else doesn't work for this. Once I just made them "1" ,"2", "3", "4", my songs played in exactly that order. It will ALWAYS restart at #1 song after it goes dark and back to light. But it only plays through your song(s) one time and stops until you reset it (dark, then light again). The on/off switch is labeled, but the volume is not; it's just a tiny slider near the one battery on the opposite side of the panel from the on/off & micro usb port. All-in-all, this little thing is pretty nifty, does well considering its size, and worth the money. I got this one to put inside of a gift box and it will play when the gift is opened. It has adhesive on the back so it can be stuck easily inside. Except for fussing around with the song order thing, it took about one minute to delete their file and transfer mine. Very easy to use! Your PC will automatically install the driver, so there's little to do. Thumbs up!
Review: This is an amazing value! It works FAR better than I expected. - I had to search through dozens of options to find a sound device small enough for my applications, and this is it! Besides the fact that it fits wonderfully in a small ring box (only 2" of internal clearance), but it performs far better than I expected for anything in this price range. The sound quality is great, and it has a small volume control lever that can take it from mute all the way to painfully loud! In addition, setup was literally drag-and-drop easy. Once I connected a usb cable to the computer, it immediately recognized it as a simple usb storage device. I simply deleted the test file and dragged my own MP3 file to the folder. Then eject the device from the computer and unplug. After all this, it still managed to impress me with the quality of sound. While it definitely isn't going to be as nice as a home stereo or a $900 smartphone, it still very faithfully reproduced the music in clean, clear mono. This is definitely the best deal you will find for a small sound chip with a speaker. All of this for only $12! I will definitely buy more of these for any and all future projects requiring a sound chip!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I want to replace the button with a no/nc/c one. what do green/blue wires denote? any specific type button i need?**
A: The color of the wires in this case is of no significance. The button serves to apply continuity between the two wires. When pressing the button, it is like touching the two wires together which activates or stops the device. When replacing the button you will want to use one that acts as a momentary switch (connects the two wires only while button is depressed). Hope this helps.

**Q: How many seconds of recording does this hold average.....more that 120 seconds??**
A: It will depend on things like the sampling rate of your recording. At a low sampling rate (you really don't need higher quality, given the speaker) you could probably fit as many as 6-8 average songs. At higher quality sampling rates, maybe only 2.

**Q: How do I get rid of previous recording? I delete and replace but it still plays one after the other.**
A: I had to not only delete the old recording but then empty the trash can of the computer. It seems deleting doesn't actually delete it but just marks the space as open for rewriting new data.

**Q: I connect the board to my computer, note a green light, and push the button. No sound. Unit is 'on'. Whats up?**
A: Here's what's up: The micro USB port kicks the board into storage mode, meaning when it's plugged in via micro usb it only functions as a storage device. So in order to use the device you'll need to wire it to a 5v power source, or a 3.7v rechargeable battery. The seller states the micro USB port does charge the 3.7v battery, so no need for a break away connection.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for music box!! I'm REALLY pleased with my project.
*by -***. on December 21, 2017*

I made a light activated LED infinity mirror music box for my BF. I couldnt see the disk on mac OS 10.11.6, but it worked just fine in ubuntu. (Never tried it on Windows- I work to avoid it.) The sound quality is impressive. I mean, yeah, it's a 6$ speaker, you know? I'm not expecting sounds like my JBL's, right? But it's pretty good, considering. It soynds louder and possibly better in some ways than my iphone speaker. Not quite as much clarity, and zylophone had a bit of static when turned up high. I didnt realise it had volume control! The light sensor is auper sensitive- I had to hundle it in two layers of black gaffer tape to assure that onlythe led's for the mirror triggered the sound when the button for the lights is actually pushed. If you want the sound off, there's a manual switch! And the coun battery is rechargable via micro usb? This was 6$!!!!! I feel like I got a really cool little device for that price. It even has a little led to tell you it's charging that goes out when it's done. I feel kind of dippy that I didnt take a video of the finished piece so yoy could hear the sound. I realise it's not visible in the picture. It looks just like the image posted by the seller. Suffice it to say: you turn on the light and hear 'prototype 1' by Wintergatan (the marble machine band). Here's a picture of the finished project, for fun. The base panel hides all the batteries and power cords. Oh! The glue backing is VERY sticky. It stayed adhered to some black plasticorr.
