They are made of a vinyl material with no stretch panels. I put them on a towel and heated them with a hair dryer until they were warm enough to stretch, and put them on with the shoes I was going to wear and a thick pair of socks. Fit was just right. A large spat would be too big for 10.5" size shoe. Ankle width is very important. If you have thick ankles you need to go with the larger spats.
