I've been using it as is for the past year because all the pockets are still secure and useable, however, you can't chinch on the upper sides now as it just pulls that part of the bag further apart. My only complaint is in the second largest pocket, there is a little set of 2-3 smaller slip-in pockets that I'm sure would be lovely to use, but that section was sewn in upside-down, so the best use I've come up with for them is stashing emergency cash I don't need to get to too often. This gives a weird appearance when carrying a completely crammed backpack.
