Joe Bob has the right answer. {Thus the description "12V 6W"} does not tell us if it's AC or DC. "12V 6W" can be either. To say {dc, just like a car} is misguided because cars have ALTERNATERS, which means AC, then rectifiers turn it into DC for the battery. I'm buying one to add to my small tractor to get a bit more amperage. I'll have to add things to get 12 volt DC, but that's simple for me. **Q: I'm getting a gas engine powered bicycle, I will need to have front,tail,turn and brake lites.what would I have to do** A: Although this is an excellent dynamo, you need to understand that it will only provide lighting when the bicycle is in motion. Mine came with head and tail lights, but that was a surprise.
