It does read/write a SanDisk 256Gb thumb drive. I have tired multiple Sd cards and all cards I've attempted to use do work in other devices. I have not tried an externally powered USB hard drive.Since it does work with the flash drive, and up to a 32Gb Sd card, I give it two stars.
