Red Head Barrels Oak Sealing Wax is a 1/3 ounce unscented, unflavored wax designed specifically to seal leaks in oak aging barrels. Its perfectly balanced consistency allows easy application by hand, filling wood pores without altering the flavor of barrel contents. ## Description

This is wax made specifically for sealing oak aging barrel leaks. You place it on the outside of the barrel on the leaking area to seal up leaks. 1 ounce of barrel wax should be enough to seal up a few leaks on a small oak barrel. If you have a larger barrel or multiple leaks we recommend that you purchase more than one ounce of barrel wax. Sealing instructions: You basically want to wipe the wax on the affected areas (after drying) and press it in to the pores of the wood. Then you can wipe off the excess with a rag. The wax will fill the pores in that area and seal it up.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How much wax needed for a 55 gallon barrel??**
A: That depends on how leaky your barrel is, I only have a 1.5 gallons barrel and only needed to wax around the barrel bands and some spots on the faces of the barrel. Having said that, if I used less than one container for a 1.5 gallons I would guess that might need substantially more and you may want to find somewhere that sells this in larger quantities.

**Q: If a barrel has leaked out its contents and dried can it be used again?**
A: Usually! From what I remember, you have to fill the dry barrel with warm water and let it expand again before identifying leaks. From there apply the wax as needed until the leak stops.

**Q: What temperature will this wax withstand? I want to make sure the wax won't melt when I put my barrel in my attic.**
A: It shouldn't be put in the attic. Should be in the basement.

**Q: Does the barrel need to be dry on the outside before applying the wax? Or can I just apply it where its leaking?**
A: You really have no idea if your barrel is leaking until you have liquid it in. Therefore your barrel will be wet when wax is used. So I use the wax on the areas that are leaking while they are wet.
