His binders & textbooks fit nicely below it and the shelf is a great place to toss a sack lunch, a stack of papers, P.E. clothes, or whatever. My big complaint is the inability to choose the shelf color when ordering. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have picked the purple color we received, but at least he can say he's got school spirit (since the school colors are purple and gold), and actually once the shelf is installed and covered up with stuff the shelf color isn't all that noticeable anyway. I am honestly the worlds pickiest 12 year old. I got this shelf for my sixth grade locker (bigger than most normal lockers) I brought i to school the next day and it folded up perfectly in my backpack. I didn't care what color I got. All of the colors were acceptable (pink, green, blue, purple, black, white) I of corse ended up getting a neon green color which I love. It fits perfectly because I put it in sideways and so I still have A LOT of room.
