The wall plate and TV plate both come disassembled in the box. Also, the wall plate, once assembled, will not sit flush against the wall until the mount is secured tightly to the wall with all 4 lag bolts into the studs. This was done on purpose so as to create tighter tolerances in the wall plate pieces. This is a very substantial mount with dual arms and heavy gauge steel.
