All of these friendly fur people create various noises throughout the night. The constant movement of the indoor animals, the pet door flapping and the barking alerts of the outside dogs when the country rabbits, possums and raccoons go marauding about, all attribute to an often interrupted night's sleep. Oh yes, and the husband snoring doesn't help much either. Therefore, I decided to partially mask some of the sounds, not all, but some. I still want to be able to hear if someone is breaking in or an animal is in distress. In reading the reviews of the sound machines available, I decided to purchase the Big Red Rooster. Rain is my dream maker and the rain sound on this machine is wonderful. The loop of playtime is not noticeable and a thunderstorm (without actually having to worry about lightening striking the house!) is soothing. It can be set for 15, 30 or 60 minutes of playtime but can also be left on all night if no time limit is set. The volume control goes from very very soft to louder than anything I would want to go to sleep by. It comes with an AC adapter which I leave plugged in but batteries can also be used. The box is very small and unobtrusive on my bedside table. I'm quite happy with the sounds and ease of operation. Update 4/18/17: I cannot begin to say how much I've enjoyed my little sleep enhancer. I've had it for almost a year now and use it every night and daytime naps.
