But I would have thought it a good idea to tell us how to write a book in 26 days. But no such information was available. In general it was just the same old writing book claptrap.It is another one of these books by authors who have run out of writing steam and ideas.If a books title says do this; it ought to have showed you how to do it. It ought to have been written in a more organized manner. But like nearly all the writing books on the market, it is like a cheese-burger. You know you've eaten something but shortly afterwards you can't quite remember what it was and you are looking out for something nice to eat again.There's only one book you will ever need to read about writing. All the rest are only good for the compost heap. Becoming a Writer by Dorothea Brande. She instructs, teaches and forces you to write. If you do what she suggests; you will be an excellent writer. You will produce good writing and you'll do it consistently.But just a word of warning be careful to what you commit yourself. I commited myself to it for six full years and found that I didn't want to be 'a writer'. There's stuff I will and do write about but 'a writer'? no thanks. There's not enough taste, flavour or substance in spending all that time writing about things that never happened. At least on the fiction side of the ledger.If you want to 'know' about writing. Write! Everything else is a complete and utter waste of time. Mind you, all the pretender wannabe writers and coffee drinkers and writer's festival attendees will choke on that.I've given up writing as a career. I've sold every writing book I had. The exercises do what they are intended to do. I'm only a few sections into the book and already see the difference, in attitude toward the work, if in no other way.
