Lets just say THINK OUTSIDE THE K-CUP. They all allow you to open K-cup or coffee pods of any brand up and dump into the chamber. Or ground coffee or lose tea or even tea or coffee bags. We travel with tea bags for me and coffee bags for hubby. We have this down pat. Type of water across the world and yes across the USA varies however. Harder water may take longer to brew a decent cup. I kid you not. So if you are in a hard water area where coffee or tea is not brewing strong...give it extra time or run it twice. Also use distilled or filtered water if you can find any and often bottled water for drinking is softer but not always. Also the K cup or pods that have cocoa or other types of drinks you can use those too. You can cut down the flat filters if you worry you need something finer than the screen provided too. I can't encourage people to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX enough. I think K-12 should teach courses every year on that subject. Enjoy your cup-of....oh yeah fresh brew. **Q: Can you use a diff cup even if it's less than 14oz, or will the water spill over?** A: Yes but if you are only making that cup just use it as a measuring cup when you put in the water to make sure it won't overfill. Also to note unlike most coffee makers this one does not have a pause feature to switch cups as it will just pour out when you remove the cup during brewing before it's done. **Q: I cannot find if its auto shut off?** A: Yes it is! This single serve coffee maker is Auto Shut off **Q: Is the inside of the mug stainless steel or plastic?** A: I recommend MyBevi 12oz Retro Stainless Steel Tumbler with Snap Fit Lid as a replacement. The inside is stainless steel, it fits perfect tilting just slightly. I have now had it for 4 years and it still works as great as it did the 1st time I used it! I do not use this on a daily basis, but travel quite frequently & have used it a lot! The coffee is actually hot when brewed, unlike some coffee makers & flavor is great! Very easy to use & clean up. It has the permanent filter with it but I use the small Melita JavaJig filters with it to make clean up even easier! If you are looking for a small portable coffee maker, this 1 is just amazing!
