The retractable marker makes using this one handed so much easier and smoother and keeps the tip sharper longer. They do dry out about twice as fast as a normal sharpie but half the time I lose the sharpie or the cap or the tip dulls to a flat before I use them until they are out of ink anyway, so I don't mind replacing these more often for the ease of use and convenience. Colors are mostly nice and easy to read, only one or two "neon" colors that don't get used because they are hard to read.
