I've had this device for 2 years now. I live in an area where wind gusts can exceed 65mph. AcuRite does not measure momentary wind gusts, but rather the average wind speed at any given time. I was disappointed to learn that this device cannot measure wind velocity gusts. So, if you're looking for a device to measure individual wind gusts, the AcuRite is not going to work for you. As for maximum wind speed (by average), I'm sure this device can reach high double digits-- as an average. Hope this helps. We recommend using a 3/4 inch schedule 40 PVC pipe or a steel pole with an outer diameter of one inch. Bring both the sensor and display units together and power down by removing all batteries from each and/or removing the power cord. 2. Change the A-B-C switch on both units to a new, matching channel. 3. Reinstall the batteries in the outdoor sensor. 4. Reinstall batteries and/or power cord into the display unit. 5. Let the units sit within a couple of feet of each other for approximately 5 minutes or until you see a solid sensor signal.
