The zoom is set by distance from the lens to the object and the focus makes things visible. The focus being on the microscope itself makes it sometimes difficult to focus and hold the camera still, especially at high magnification, hence the 4 stars. When I have time/need I'll see how well it runs on an android device.... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Can easily see line thickness of 0.005" *by R***D on Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2018* I wanted this to cut nut slots on my 1960s vintage Fender Esquire guitar. I had to shave off about 0.005 inches. I had tried a head mounted magnifying glass... that just wasn't practical. This endoscope was perfect. I could lay the guitar down on a table and adjust this endoscope to look right down fret #1. I plugged this endoscope into my Mac PowerBook and launched VLC... File > Open Capture Device > tick ON Video > select teslong camera, and I have a live picture. I adjusted the light level on the camera's cable dimmer; turned the focus ring at the back of the camera tube... and BOOM there is my fret gauge against the string. Very easy to read on the computer screen. I can easily see the thickness of the string which is 0.010" and easily see the 0.005" thickness reference line on the fret gauge.A few notes: - like any other USB video device, there is about a half-second delay in the video. - I've connected to VLC twice, on two different Macs (a total of four sessions). Each time, the first time, the video that comes up is the computer's built in camera. If I just go back to VLC and select the teslong camera again (even though it shows it connected), the endoscope video comes up the second time. - the mechanical mount is light weight, but it held the endoscope rock solid for my guitar work. It was easy to rotate the camera tube to get the picture to be right-side-up, and the two articulating joints made it very easy to position the camera where I needed it. - I could easily see objects at 0.005". I'm guessing that I'd have a hard time seeing anything smaller than 0.001"Hmmm, I wonder how well this will work to remove splinters... not that I'm wishing for splinters... but, I'll definitely try this out.======================================================Update on March 13th: Bad news, good news: - the bad news, I've gotten two splinters since my first review - the good news, I got to test this camera on splinters!The video quality is great for super small splinters. You can set up the camera (with light) to point right at the splinter, so you have a free hand to get the splinter out of the other hand. Depending on where you place the camera, the video can be backwards from your eye's view, which makes the directions backwards. If you place the camera so that it points from your eyes to the splinter, then everything will appear natural. I've attached some pictures of my recent splinter removal: - the splinter was in my thumb, near the thumb's connection to the hand (you'll never be able to tell from the pics) - I only had to pick at the top layer of skin... no pain, no blood - the lead tip of a mechanical pencil was put in the scene to get a sense of scale. The lead is 0.5 mm (0.02 inches) - the camera's built in light really helped - the focus control is beautiful... smooth motion, really clear focus - the articulating mount works really wellThe only thing that you'll have to fix yourself is: - there's no mark on the camera tube to mark it's orientation (you can't tell if the picture is upside down until you put something in the scene) - I added a piece of yellow electrical tape towards the back of the tube.
