I have had mine for 22 years and have never needed a new battery. The batteries power is restored by the solar. If you think you need to replace the battery it can be replaced on the back of the calculator with 4 small screws. Not sure of the type since I have never had to replace mine but you can look there. **Q: Does it come with a hard cover?** A: Yes, It does come with hard cover **Q: If you attempt a square root that is not a perfect square will it simplify or not? The TI-30X IIS will display 6.708203932 for the square root of 45.The square root of 45 in its simplest radical form is/would be 3ã5.
