Works great with Insteon dimmers, a few minor issues.

*by A***. on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 6, 2014*

My setup: [120VAC from house]--> Insteon Dimmer --> LED DC Magnetic Transformer --> 12VDC LED Undercabinet Strip Lights [35 Watts max]Perfect solution electrically, but a few minor issues:1) Be aware, that if you don't use a dimmer the manufacture says to reduce the LED load to 50% of rated value. In this case that would be 20-watts. Not a problem for me...and most of you, otherwise why spend $70? (Buy one for $15 if you don't need dimming.)2) You will need the following hardware: A pair of wire clamp connectors to put in the 1/2" knockout holes so you don't cut the insulation on your wires. This makes it legal and tidy. Also you'll need five smaller wire nuts and two mounting screws.3) It's a bit over-priced...even though it's high quality and sturdy. I think that $50 would be fair for the 40-watt device...but at this time in history they kinda have you over a barrel.4) Cover plate screw is tiny and faces in an awkward direction (at least in my installation). I had to wire up the transformer device, close the lid, put the screw back in, and THEN secure the transformer in my enclosure.Specifically, I used Insteon in-linelinc dimmers with these LED magnetic transformers. I've used several of the Insteon dimmers now for various inductive loads although I try to keep it under 150-Watts per dimmer. Insteon dimmers are rated at 300-Watts for purely resistive loads and with LED lights, 150-watts is a ton of LEDs. As I stated, for this application my load was 35-watts max. Perfect. I will be upgrading my in-linelinc Insteon Dimmers with DIN-rail mounted Insteon Dimmers in the next week...just to tidy up my installation box; I have other DIN rail devices in the same box. I'll report back at that time but expect no issues there.I do not recommend using Lutron typical dimmers at all for this... if you're on Lutron, pony up for the $80 magnetic-load Lutron dimmer.Transformer noise was reported by other reviewers and would be normal for a transformer, but I haven't noticed any noise at all. Because of the minor issues and high price I'm knocking off a star. I'm an electrical engineer with over 25 years of design experience. Whoever designed this did a nice job.

Perfect for LED lighting applications with wall switch/Dimmer on 120V side.

*by J***H on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 4, 2015*

Worked perfectly for an LED undercabinet lighting system I installed. You would use this is your want to dim with a typical 120 Volt wall switch. If you don't use a more expensive Magnetic transformer like this, you cannot use 120V dimming (you would have to use a low voltage dimmer on the low voltage side.Wanted my kitchen under cab lighting to be dimmed from a Decora wall switch instead of a hokey low voltage dial.Works great - no buzz. Wish the dim range was greater but pretty good. May be able to adjust dim range but I haven't bothered.Final Note: If you are going to put in LED lighting, MAKE SURE you know what you will end up with. The LED tape light I bought online ended up being a cool white LED look eventhough reviews and MFR specs said 2700K temp..you just cant go by reviews. LED is never going to look at warm as halogen so be ready for that.
